Unni Mukundan's Malikappuram is one of the trend-setting films in recent Malayalam cinema. The film hit theatres on December 30 and initially only reached Kerala. The film received positive word-of-mouth publicity from day one and is reaching more markets as it enters its second week. The film will be released in the UAE/GCC region today. The film is reaching other countries with a huge screen count.
The film will hit 130 screens in Mumbai, Pune, Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Bangalore, Chennai, Vellore, Pondicherry, Salem, Trichy, Tirunalveli, Madurai, Tirupur, Coimbatore, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. This is a huge screen count for a Malayalam film. The show will also have Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi language versions.
Directed by debutant Vishnu Shashishankar, the film is an entertainer that travels the path of devotion. Child actor Devananda has played the central role in the film. The film is jointly produced by Anton Joseph's An Mega Media and Venu Kunnapilli's Kavya Film Company. Vishnu Sasishankar is the son of director Sasishankar, who made films like Narayam, Kunhikoonan, and Mr. Butler. The editing of the film is done by Vishnu. Abhilash Pillai wrote the film Malikappuram. This is a screenplay by Abhilash Pillai after Patham Valavu, Night Drive, and Kadavar. Apart from Unnimukundan, Indrans, Manoj K. Jayan, Saiju Kurup, Ramesh Pisharati, Sampath Ram, Sreepath, Devananda, and Alfie Panjikaran are also playing lead roles in the film.
