Samantha Ruth Prabhu's forthcoming Telugu film Shaakuntalam, which was meant to hit theatres on February 17, has been pushed back a few months. The film's producers revealed on Friday that the picture will now release on April 14. The makers released a new poster with a release date without explaining the specific reason for the delay.
Samantha plays Shakuntala, the daughter of Menaka and Viswamithra, in Shaakuntalam. Gunasekhar produces and directs the film. It will release in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada. Samantha's first work with Gunasekhar is on this project.
During the film's premiere, Samantha recently stated that this will be her dream project and part in 2020. Shaakuntalam's trailer was published in January. Samantha noted during the occasion that her love for cinema hasn't changed despite her recent personal problems. She stated that she mustered all of her confidence to attend the event. She was discussing her rare auto-immune condition, Myositis. She was diagnosed with the disease last November.
“No matter how many struggles I face in life, one thing won’t change. That’s how much I love cinema and cinema loves me back. I strongly believe that this love will grow manifold with Shaakuntalam,” she had said.
Samantha was most recently seen in the Telugu action film Yashoda. Samantha plays a surrogate mother who will go to any length to protect her child in the film. The film was a box-office success, grossing approximately 40 crores throughout its theatrical run. Samantha recently began filming the Indian adaption of the Amazon Prime series Citadel. She will appear alongside Varun Dhawan in the project, which is being co-created by Raj and DK.
