Both Hollywood and Bollywood have pulled back many films from their scheduled release as theatres have shut down across multiple countries. Only last week, Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae's starrer, The Love Birds got pulled from its scheduled theatrical release of April 3.
Now news has confirmed that Netflix is picking up The Lovebirds before the film gets to have a theatrical release. This is a big step for Hollywood films as fears grow around the Coronavirus outbreak. Michael Showalter has directed The Lovebirds. The film is a comedy that follows the story of a couple on the verge of a breakup. The rest of the film sees the couple struggling with a unusual murder mystery that unfolds around them.
Paramount Pictures has produced the upcoming comedy. Paramount had previously released The Cloverfield Paradox directly to Netflix. That film had also skipped theatres completely. However, the film did not sit well with fans and critics alike. Nonetheless, with the release of films like The Irishman straight to Netflix, the streaming network has certainly proved itself worthy of a new-age viewing public. Martin Scorsese's directorial The Irishman went on to be nominated for multiple academy awards.
Other recent films will also soon be available for subscribers to stream. Warner Bros. announced that the Margot Robbie starrer Birds of Prey and Just Mercy are also headed towards the digital. Vin Diesel's Bloodshot will soon be available for fans to stream. This radical move has been taken after many governments have put quarantines and travel restrictions in place.
