Ever since the draft of Cinematograph (Amendment) Bill 2021 was made public, it has been receiving strong opposition from filmmakers across the country. While the Bill has strong laws against piracy, it also aims to curtail a filmmaker's freedom of expression. The Bill states that the Centre can pull a film out of theatres and ask Censor Board to re-examine the certification if they feel that the content is against public order. Kamal Haasan, Vetri Maaran, Suriya, and several other filmmakers across the country have opposed the Bill.
Vishal took to Twitter and wrote,The Cinematograph (Amendment) Bill 2021 (Draft) allowing the Central Government to cancel a film's censor certificate at any time will create insecurity and severly impact business prospects for every film and hurt the industry, hence such provisions must be dropped.
