The lockdown has severely affected the film industries across the world. All the productions got stalled and the releases got postponed. Theaters got shut as well. Even in India, many films were due for the release in March, April, and May. All those releases got affected due to the lockdown. One such film is Ponmagal Vandhaal, starring Jyotika in the lead role. This Tamil drama was originally supposed to release on the 27th of March. But it didn't happen due to the pandemic. Now, we hear that the makers are planning to release it directly on an OTT platform.
According to the sources, popular OTT platform Amazon Prime Video offered an amount of Rs. 9 crores to bu the rights of Ponmagal Vandal. Apparently, the film's producer Suriya was happy with the deal and sold the rights as well. The sources also claimed that the OTT release date of Ponmagal Vandhal will be out soon. Delay in the release will make producers pay double interest rates for the financiers till the movie hits the theaters. This will severely affect small budget films and producers. Meanwhile, OTT platforms are offering these producers a lump sum of amount to buy the total rights of their films. Even though they are not high as the theatrical collections, the small budget film producers are finding this way the best one during these times.
Directed by JJ Fredrick, Ponmagal Vandhal features Parthipan in the other important role. Ramji has handled the cinematography of it and Govind Vasantha has composed the music of the film.
