Jacqueline Fernandez has made her own place in Bollywood despite her international identity and lack of connections. Since her debut movie Aladin (2009) by Sujoy Ghosh and co-starred with
Riteish Deshmukh, she has come a long way. She informed that she had to go through different types of struggles. One of them was her accent. People poked at the way she spoke Hindi and for "trying too hard to fit in".
Fernandez won the Miss Universe Sri Lanka pageant in 2006. After which she stepped into Bollywood. She says she knew what she was getting into. She told "I didn't belong here. So I knew I would never be able to speak Hindi like
Sonakshi Sinha. Even my co-actors have imitated my Hindi to the extent that they spoofed it. I used to get really angry."
She mentioned her constant attempts at perfecting her Hindi. She said "It's not that I don't try. I take regular classes for hours, every day, and I'm getting better for sure. Previously, I used to say weird things in Hindi. My friends have sometimes corrected me but there were also a few who made fun of me and ridiculed me. I am not friends with them anymore."
She also gave an episode of this bullying. She informed me how "There was this Diwali party and I was wearing a really pretty Indian outfit. These three actor friends of mine looked at me and said, 'Jackie, you're trying too hard to be Indian and fit in'."
Fernandez is currently working for Attack opposite John Abraham and
Rakul Preet Singh. Directed by Lakshya Raj. It is an action movie. It will be coming out on Independence day weekend.
