INOX issues a statement on producers skipping theatrical releases; Inox talks about the implementation of retributive measures

Interestingly, the producers of Bollywood movie Gulabo Sitabo have come up with the announcement of their movie directly on an OTT platform. It came as a big surprise to one and all. Also, in a similar manner, Amazon Prime Video has now announced almost the releases of six movies at a time. All the films from Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam skip the theatrical release. INOX, the biggest multiplex chain in the country opposed the idea of the Gulabo Sitabo announcement on Amazon Prime. They issued a statement, indirectly threatening the producers of boycotting their films. "INOX would like to express extreme displeasure and disappointment on an announcement made by a production house today, to release their movie directly on an OTT platform by skipping the theatrical window run. The decision of the production house to deviate from the global, prevalent content windowing practice is alarming and disconcerting." read their statement. They added more to it.

"Cinemas and content creators have always been into mutually beneficial partnerships. This partnership has endured for decades. and has provided succor to each other. In these troubled times, it is disturbing to see this. Needless to say, INOX will be constrained to examine its options, reserve all rights including taking retributive measures in dealing with such fair-weather friends." they added. They further wrote, "INOX would like to reiterate that as the backbone of the cinematic value chain. this windowing pattern has done wonders in them. of revenues for the content creators and all other stakeholders. as it offers them the opportunity to extract the best from all. INOX would like to urge all content creators not to skip the theatrical run. and stay with the age-old and established windowing pattern. which is in the best interests of all stakeholders in the value chain." However, the Producers guild also issued a statement to them saying it's not the time for retributive measures and expressed its disappointment over the statement.
