Important Judgement On Income Tax Case Against Vijay By Madras High Court

The 1.5 crore fine imposed by the Income Tax Department over Vijay's "Puli" income has been temporarily suspended by the Madras High Court. Actor Vijay reported receiving Rs 35 crore 42 lakh 91 thousand 890 in income when he submitted his income tax return for the fiscal year 2016–17. When determining the assessment for that year, the Income Tax Department compared it to the records taken in the raid on actor Vijay's home in 2015. As a result, it was discovered that the Rs 15 crore in revenue for the movie "Puli" was not properly accounted for.

The Income Tax Department issued an order on June 30, 2022, imposing a fine of Rs. 1.50 crores for income concealment. Then Thalapathy Vijay filed a plea in the Madras High Court challenging this ruling, arguing that if a penalty was to be imposed, the order should have been made in 2019 itself. He, therefore, asked to have this order issued late be revoked in the petition. The judge who heard the case has placed a temporary hold on the Income Tax Department's judgment fining actor Vijay Rs. 1.50 crore. The judge also postponed the hearing until September 16th and ordered the Income Tax Department to reply to the petition. The actor is currently in Hyderabad for the production of his latest bilingual movie, Varisu.
