Eva Longoria has complaints with Hollywood’s treatment of people of color

Eva Longoria’s complaint against the industry is to the point, and she makes no excuses. She outrightly says that Hollywood is responsible for the negative portrayal of Latinos on the big and small screen. She does not speak only of under-representation. She talks of being completely erased. She says how there is zero representation and if you do not exist on the screen; you do not exist at all. The stories in Hollywood never come close to the correct representation of the coloured community. There are no complexities, only stereotypes. The current cultural shift of America is changing, becoming more Latin, and this is scaring people. If Hollywood had done a better job at representation, people would not be so negative about change today.

At TheWrap's Power Women Summit, Eva Longoria said, “We in this room have contributed to these negative portrayals and images we've seen in the media. We here in Hollywood are largely responsible for much of the unconscious bias that is against people of colour. People of colour are depicted in very narrow ways on-screen and unconscious bias come from those repeated images that come across as a threat.”
