I didn't get straight into the elevator. Each step is stepped on. Surabhi Lakshmi will say this in the simplest way of her film career. Although I stay in Kochi, whenever I get a chance, I go straight back to my hometown, Kozhikode. Travelling back to Kozhikode brings a lot of joy. There is also that joy in finding good roles in film life, she says. Surabhi's new film is 'Kuri' produced by Siad Coker under the banner of Coker's Media Entertainments.
'I was not an integral part of commercial cinema. I was neither the heroine nor the supporting actress. She used to come and act for two or three days. There was a time when I thought of giving up and going back. Awards have helped to change such thinking. Even after the award, the main directors of Malayalam did not call me, saying that there was a good role in the movie for you . I just wanted to play good roles. I came from a small village with no background in cinema. Arts festival, drama, TV serial, one face film role, some more good roles... That was my film life', says Surabhi.
Surabhi talks about her award winning movie 'Minnaminung'. Meanwhile, the movie 'Minnaminung' is coming, the director told me to read the script of the movie in advance, and that itself was an honour and felt the same way as winning an award. When the award was announced, 'National Award for Surabhi!' Like many people, I was very shocked. With the appeal of the award, I got some better roles in different movies.
She appeared in the title role in Anoop Menon's 'Padma'. Kuri, Thala, Jwalamukhi, Poriveil, these are some of the films that are coming soon . Earlier, one page of the script was brought in the morning. Now there is freedom to read the entire script. The national award-winning actress is feeling grateful and happy for her success.
