One of the world's largest OTT platforms, Disney Plus has finally arrived in India. In fact, it got launched three weeks ahead of its original launch date of March 29. Disney Plus has tied up with Hotstar to give unlimited access to their content. Now, people can watch the content of Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Discovery Channel.
Hotstar has also changed its name to Disney+ Hostar now, with a new update. The users can also enjoy Disneys shows like The Mandalorian, Marvel's Hero Project and The Imagineering Story: Limited Series right now on Hotstar.
Disney Plus will get launched in the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, and Switzerland on March 24. The streaming platform got launched for US users in November last year. In its first month, Disney generated a revenue of $53.3 million and $43.9 million in the second month.
Hotstar is already an established streaming platform in India. It enjoys millions of subscribers and offers content in various languages of the country. It also offers a live streaming facility for some of the television channels. It also live streams various sporting events, including the IPL. Hotstar reported more than 100 million daily active users and 300 million monthly active users.
The reports reveal that Disney Plus and Hotstar officials might increase the subscription charges once the launch takes place officially. If that happens, it will certainly be a big risk for the users. Also, we have to see how the competitors in the market will welcome the new rival.
