Disney+ made an announcement that they will postpone the March 29th release of Disney+ in India. They were planning to open streaming services in India, another attempt to compete with Netflix. Through its local partner Hotstar, the premier of Disney+ was to coincide with the Twenty20 cricket tournament which is now postponed till April. This was the plan pre-corona virus outbreak. The new Disney+ through Hotstar service in India would have invited many subscribers but now by the looks of it, that will have to wait.
It will have two types of pricing, the standard one and the premium one which will have Original shows like The Mandalorian" and Marvel's "WandaVision" and "Loki". Disney+ announced, "Given the delay of the season, we have made the decision to briefly pause the roll-out of Disney+ and will announce a new revised premiere date for the service soon," No further information has been released.
With many film releases and shootings put on hold due to COVID-19, worldwide, this decision seems only fair. While there is a certain entertainment industry that is trying to adapt to the changing circumstances and demands. For example, Universal Pictures placed their three biggest films on video on demand. They placed The Invisible Man, The Hunt, and Emma on video on demand. They announced a hold on 'Trolls: World Tour till April along with F9 and No Time to Die.
Disney also had to postpone one of the biggest anticipated movies of 2020: Mulan, the live-action film. There were talks about it premiering online on Disney+ but due to its expensive budget that doesn't seem to happen.
