Padma Shri awardee and celebrated Fashion Designer, Wendell Rodricks passed away at the age of 59 on Wednesday night. Rodricks who is also known for his activist work died in Goa at his home.
Tweeting about the sad demise, Vishwajit Rane, the state minister of Goa wrote, "Deeply saddened to hear about the sudden demise of my very good friend and designer, Wendell Rodricks. His excellency in his work and skills are irreplaceable and shall always be cherished. We will truly miss him. My heartfelt condolences to his family and dear ones."
Wendell is well known all over the country. Lately, he was busy setting up India's first Costume Museum in Goa. In his last Instagram post, the designer wrote, "Final plastering at work." The museum is called the Moda Goa Museum and is soon to open in a 450 year old villa in Colvale, Goa.
Smriti Irani who is the union handloom and textile minister also tweeted out saying, "Shocked to hear about the untimely demise of Wendell Rodricks, one of India’s most renowned designers. My heartfelt condolences to his loved ones. May his soul rest in peace."
Wendell Rodricks was born in 1960 and expressed his voice for gay rights and environmental protection rights.
