According to Rajkumar Santoshi, he was concerned that the CBFC might not approve his movie since it presents a different perspective on Gandhi. The movie was released, nonetheless, with no cuts at all.
The movie takes place in India in the early years after independence. The movie depicts a fictitious meeting between Mahatma Gandhi and Nathuram Godse. The movie will present Godse's perspective and explain his motivations for killing Gandhi.
This is not the first time Gandhi has appeared in a Rajkumar Santoshi film. Gandhi was included in his 2002 movie The Legend of Bhagat Singh, which also includes criticism of Gandhi. The director spoke in an interview that “Even here, my film has a very different take on Gandhi. I was actually scared that the censor may not pass the film altogether. But the censor (board) did not even cut a single word.”
Gandhi Godse - Ek Yudh, Rajkumar Santoshi's upcoming movie, had been unveiled. The movie's title and poster hinted that it would be a gritty affair. The same promise is made in the movie's newly released teaser. Nathuram Godse and Mahatma Gandhi will be portrayed, respectively, by Chinmay Mandlekar and Deepak Antani. Tanisha Santoshi, the daughter of Rajkumar, makes her acting debut in this movie.
The movie Gandhi Godse - Ek Yudh will premiere in theatres on January 26, which is Republic Day. The film will cross with Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan, which is planned to be released on January 25.
