When Allu Arjun's Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo appeared on Netflix, the audience got shocked. The USA distributors of the movie promoted that the film is not going to be available on Netflix. The distributors thought that the film is only available on Sun Nxt and hence did this promotional stunt. Now, when the film appeared on Netflix, they received heavy criticism. The audiences on social media are criticizing both the producers and distributors.
To clear the air, the distributors have come up with a clarification and their side of the story. The following is a press release that they sent to the media.
"We were told by the makers and it was mentioned in all forms of media that film's satellite and digital rights were sold to SunNxt, the OTT platform associated with Gemini TV. SunNxt as a streaming service is not as penetrable as Netflix or Prime Video among overseas Telugu audience and has very few subscribers. So, we (i.e. Overseas Distributors) sod the phrase 'You will not see this on Netflix or Prime Video' in our promotional campaign. Last night the film was made available both on SunNxt and Netflix. We discussed this issue with the production team and learned that SunNxt who bought streaming rights, associated with Netflix as well to reach out to audiences in more overseas countries where SunNxt has low/ or No presence. This is an internal agreement among those two streaming platforms to increase their revenues and to reach out to more audiences all over and nothing to do with Producers or overseas distributor which is also surprising to us. I hope this clarifies. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and we assure you that going forward we will be more careful with our promotional campaigns. Thank you all for your support." read a press release from BlueSky Cinemas, Inc.
