Beyonce and Jay-Z remain seated during the National Anthem Performance at Super Bowl

Fans got surprised to see Beyonce and Jay-Z at the Super Bowl 2020. The couple made an appearance along with their daughter Blue Ivy and found seated among the front rows. The couple chose to remain seated during the national anthem performance by Demi Lovato. The music superstars received a mixed reaction from social media. There was an outpouring criticism that the stars faced for disrespecting the national anthem.

Some of the users even asked them to leave the country if they feel so oppressed. On the other hand, there were many fans that supported the couple by highlighting the fact that there were other members of the audience who also chose to remain seated. The reason behind this remains unclear at this point. Some on social media also speculated this to be a political statement. Jay- Z has been a strong advocate of voices against racism and police brutality in the USA.

This gesture had seen as the couple’s support towards Colin Kaepernick, the 49ers quarterback who started a movement of kneeling during the national anthem in 2016 to protest against the treatment of the African American community in the country. Jay-z showed his full support to Kaepernick and even collaborated with the NFL to fight for social justice. Considering the distance that the couple maintains from media there is hardly any chance of a comment from them.
