Ashutosh Gowarikar became a fan of Irrfan Khan after watching his performance in the serial Bharat Ek Khoj

Irrfan Khan's demise is an irreversible loss for the Indian film industry. Many of us feel that no one can fill the void created by his death. Even popular director Ashutosh Gowarikar feels the same. The Lagaan director has shared a clip of Irrfan from the popular series Bharat Ek Khoj (Discovery of India). He said that he was a fan of Irrfan since he saw the performance of the latter in the serial.

Yesterday, Ashutosh Gowarikar shared a video clip of the episode in which Irrfan had acted. Irrfan played the role of historian Badayuni, in this movie. Along with the video, Gowarikar tweeted, "As an actor, I was a part of #DISCOVERYOFINDIA in 1988 by #ShyamBenegal babu! One day, I witnessed a scene between #Akbar & his historian BADAYUNI, played brilliantly, by an unknown actor. On asking the asst., I was told – his name is #IrrfanKhan! Been his #FAN ever since!" Irrfan has done various small roles in many serials during the early stages of his career. People who are his ardent fans, know about this little gem of performances he gave in the initial stages. The 53-year-old actor passed away a few days back, due to the colon infection. He was struggling with cancer from the last couple of years. Coming to Gowarikar, his last directorial film was Panipat. This film had hit the screens in December last year. Starring Arjun Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Sanjay Dutt in the lead role, this period war film ended up as a failure at the box office.
