She was with Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor in the lead roles of Anurag Basu's comedy-drama Barfi. The movie had its international premiere on September 14, 2012. The movie received overwhelmingly favourable reviews from critics. The crowd enjoyed the actress' portrayal of Shruti Ghosh, and she gave a strong effort.
The movie was released ten years ago today, and Ileana spoke with Indian Express on the occasion to say that Barfi was a turning point in her career. “Barfihad has so much soul in it, that it was really hard to turn it down. It was a film I knew somewhere that I would never get again. Even though I had reservations about how my role would turn out, I just could not say no,"
She recalled her first encounter with Ranbir and how kind and sweet the Ae Dil Hai Mushkil actor was. She admitted that she was timid, anxious, and unsure of what to expect. "I thought this guy is a superstar and he is really cool and I instantly knew that it would be easy working with him. He is one of the best co-stars I have ever had,"
Ileana continued by describing her first encounter with Priyanka: PC said hello and came over to her vanity van. "It was really sweet and unbelievably chill and lovely," Speaking on her character, Ileana claimed that because Shruti has so many facets, she doesn't believe any other part could hold a candle to it. The actress admitted that it is one movie that she truly put her heart into.
