Alia Bhatt-Vijay Varma's 'Darlings' To Get Tamil And Telugu Remakes

The "Darlings" movie, starring Alia Bhatt, will be remade in Tamil and Telugu, according to a statement from producer Red Chillies Entertainment on Wednesday. Since its launch on Netflix last week, the dark comedy helmed by newcomer Jasmeet K Reen has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from both reviewers and viewers.

The producer and COO of Red Chillies Entertainment, Gaurav Verma, stated that "Darlings" should be remade into several different languages. He said, "We had the script of 'Darlings' with us for a while now and through the journey of making it, we decided to make it in multiple languages. The film has a certain landscape that can be adapted very well in multiple languages. The process is on as we speak."

In the Mumbai-set movie, Shefali Shah and Alia Bhatt's mother and daughter characters struggle against all odds to establish their place in the city while also looking for courage and love. Verma stated that while the basic narrative will remain the same, the tale will be localized as necessary. Red Chillies Entertainment's entry into the Tamil and Telugu markets as a stand-alone label will also be marked by the remakes. Gaurav Verma added that "To go to the Tamil and Telugu market is not something we will consolidate or have offices there, but it’s going to be on a script-to-script basis. 'Darlings' has the potential, so we are taking it there.” Under her production company's banner, 'Eternal Sunshine Productions', Bhatt also produced 'Darlings'.
