Akshay Kumar Quits Aanand L. Rai's Gorkha; Claims He Does Not Want To Associate With A Story That May Have A Shadow Of Doubt

Akshay Kumar and Aanand L Rai were meant to reunite for a third movie following the releases of Atrangi Re and Raksha Bandhan. The biopic Gorkha was first announced by Colour Yellow Productions and Cape of Good Films in 2021. The movie is based on the life of Major General Ian Cardozo. He was the illustrious commander of the Indian Army's Gorkha regiment (5th Gorkha Rifles).

Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan was set to direct the film. The director has received a National Award for direction. Additionally, it was mentioned last year that the project is scheduled to begin production in March 2023. The most recent information indicates that the actor is no longer a Gorkha part. According to a Hindustan Times report, Akshay Kumar made the decision to leave the movie when concerns about the story's authenticity were voiced. A source revealed to HT, “Some veterans from the unit that Major General Cardozo was attached with during the war reached out, putting major question marks on his version of the events. Akshay has the utmost respect for the armed forces. He does not want to associate with a story that may have a shadow of doubt”. According to reports, Akshay's spokesman confirmed the rumours that he will not be appearing in the movie. He withheld further information. Akshay was set to portray a war hero who took part in the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971, and the wars in 1962, and 1965. In the meantime, Akshay Kumar will star in the film Selfiee. He will act alongside Emraan Hashmi, Nushratt Bharuccha, and Diana Penty. The movie is all set to release in February 2023. He also directed the remake films Soorarai Pottru and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan starring Tiger Shroff.
