It has been legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam's dream for almost a decade to adapt the Tamil literary novel Ponniyin Selvan into a film. Though his initial attempts failed, Mani Ratnam did not give up. His production house, Madras Talkies, joined hands with Lyca Productions to make Ponniyin Selvan a reality. Now, the film's shooting is progressing at a brisk pace in Hyderabad at Ramoji Film City. As reported earlier, nearly six different sets depicting the Chola architectural style have been erected at the Film City. The latest development is that actor Rahman has joined the cast of Ponniyin Selvan.
