Abhay Deol has unveiled the first trailer of his upcoming film, Trial By Fire. The film is a Netflix original based on the real-life Uphar cinema tragedy. Trial By Fire will premiere on January 13, Friday.
A fire at the Uphaar Cinema in 1997 resulted in at least 100 casualties and 59 fatalities. The clip begins in a pleasant and inviting home where a mother is saying goodbye to her children as they leave for a movie outing. We will soon witness the atrocities of the fire in the theatre. Next, Abhay and Rajshri Deshpande are shown as struggling parents. They find themselves in the most difficult battle of a parent's life: the pursuit of justice following the passing of their children.
The trailer does not give off an angst-filled or suspenseful vibe. Instead, it has a subdued tone that is evocative of Talvar by Meghna Gulzar.
The struggle for justice faced by the families of the Uphar disaster victims will be highlighted in Trial By Fire. It is based on the book Trial by Fire: The Tragic Tale of the Uphaar Fire Tragedy by Neelam and Shekhar Krishnamoorthy.
Abhay shared the trailer on Instagram and wrote,
Trial By Fire, produced by Endemol Shine India and House of Talkies, is being directed by Prashant Nair. Trial By Fire has Abhay and Rajshri as the protagonist couple. The film also stars Anupam Kher, Ratna Pathak Shah, and Shilpa Shukla. Ashish Vidyarthi, Rajesh Tailang, and Shardul Bharadwaj also play major roles.
Prashant Nair said in a press statement, “Neelam and Shekhar Krishnamoorthy are inspiring examples. They are examples of the kind of resilience and fortitude it takes to move the needle even slightly in this country.”
He added, "What happened to them and the way they have been forced to fight for justice is truly horrific. And, unfortunately, there are countless other people today in similar situations. We are grateful to Netflix for being such courageous partners in telling this story."
