While the film Highway directed by Imtiaz Ali is one of the early works of
Alia Bhatt. It is still one of her best. After her role in Student of the Year directed by
Karan Johar. Highway shows Bhatt in a completely new light. Alongside her were Randeep Hooda and Durgesh Kumar as lead characters. The film follows a to-be married girl, Veera Tripathi whom Hooda aka Mahabir Bhati kidnaps. As the film progresses Bhatt develops an unlikely companionship with Hooda. The film in itself bagged much praise and awards.
Here is some lesser-known information about what went in the making of this fine film:
1. The film Highway was first, written and directed by Ali himself for the daily soap Rishtey on Zee TV. It was an episode bearing the same name. Ali later decided to convert it into a film.
2. The film has been on hold since 2005 and has replaced many actors. To begin with, the movie was to star Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta. Later, Ayesha Takia and Bobby Deol replaced them. The movie had a great launch in 2006 but due to Ali's dispute with Deol, the film had to halt right there and didn’t take off until 2014.
3. To prepare for her role better, Bhatt didn't wash her hair for three months. No proper sources could confirm how accurate this was but one can see for themselves by watching the movie.
4. Bhatt is not the only one who invested herself in the film. Hooda too went to the length of not talking to her for 25 days to prepare for the distance which both the characters share in the early part of the film
5. True to the scenes, the film crew traveled a total of 6 states and 15 towns and cities.
6. Some of the key scenes in the movie took place at Rohtang Paas, Himachal Pradesh.
