The second week of this multi-starrer's run began today after it had a successful run for one week. The epic period drama saw strong attendance for a week throughout several holidays. It has earned more than Rs 340 crores globally.
The movie has already surpassed all previous records for Tamil films in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. It is shortly expected to surpass all previous records in the USA.
It has been hailed as the fastest film to earn Rs 100+ crores in Tamil Nadu. According to reports, PS 1's total take in the state was around Rs 125 crores by the end of day 7. The movie did well domestically since it was released in five languages. It did well in both the northern and southern states of India.
The 1955 Tamil novel by Kalki Krishnamoorthy, which explains the historical period of the Cholas with a focus on the Rajaraja Cholan, is the inspiration for Mani Ratnam's dream project, "Ponniyin Selvan." The film adaptation of the five chapters of the book was split into two parts. It stars Jayam Ravi, Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Sarathkumar, Prakash Raj, and R. Parthiban, among others. AR Rahman composed the music for the picture.
